Women throughout the ages have been brought up to be caregivers. A desire to help others, compassion and a feeling of empathy, led to my work. My mother’s battle with ovarian cancer and Alzheimer’s, for over ten years, is a major reason for my work. Her operations, chemotherapy sessions and her memory problems all helped shape my wish and goal to help others who were suffering from illnesses.
I worked as a volunteer on cancer patients at the Canadian Cancer Society. The people who came there were all undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatments. It was great to give back. I realized it could be me or someone close, dealing with the cancer. The thanks that I received from the wonderful people there was so rewarding.
